Abstract
Clarification of essence of the socio-political and national and religious fight which captured southern region of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (henceforce – GDL) in the middle of the 17th century remains insufficiently studied problem of its history. The important component of this problem is clarification of nature of fight at the initial stage, namely: in February-April of 1648 Bohdan Khmelnytsky planned organization of revolt in different regions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and reckoned to them Belarusian lands, which were in structure of the GDL. Revolt began in June, 1648 after emergence here the Cossack divisions dispatched by B. Khmelnytsky. As well as on the Ukrainian lands the Cossack armies, as a rule, didn’t repair punishments over the population. According to sources Cossacks «killed Poles», but didn’t touch Belarusians. Forms of fight of Cossacks and rusins of the GDL were similar to Ukrainian. These are refusals to carry out duties; attacks on nobles, Catholic clergy, government officials, servants, Catholic temples, tenants and Jews; riots of manors; property capture; collisions and fights with noble and governmental groups and so forth. Process of transition to the Cossacks of population of the southern and further the central part of Belarus became one of consequences of revolt. It was accompanied, as well as in Ukraine, by creation of regiments on Cossack regimental and century sample. According to separate sources we learn that the population of the southern Belarus didn’t realize itself ethnic community separate of Ukrainians, and considered itself similar to rusins of the Ukrainian lands.
