Abstract

The article deals with the role of the Lithuanian factor (military opposition in the territory of lithuania, fight for favor is analyzed from the lithuanian elite, consideration of a question of accessory of the lithuanian territories during the Polish-russian negotiations) during rivalry of Moscow and warsaw during 1654–1667. The role of the Lithuanian factor during the rivalry of Moscow and Warsaw in the period of 1654–1667 is analyzed in the article. It is marked that its influence was manifested, first of all, by the lion’s share of the armed resistance that took place actually on the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (henceforce – GDL). Secondly, in that both development of military operations and that time political fight between Moscow and Warsaw largely appeared related to the position of the Lithuanian leadership. Both the Polish guidance and tsar’s governmental officials had, on the one hand, to take into consideration the opinion of the Lithuanians, and, on the other hand, tried to win them over to their side with the purpose of improvement of the positions in relation to the rival. The Lithuanian factor actively manifested during the Polish-Moscow peaceful negotiations that took place in 1656 and 1658 in Vilnius, in 1664 in Dubrovychi, and also in Andrusove in 1666–1667. The position of the Lithuanian elite, that was most interested in more quick signing a peace treaty, which, in opinion of the Lithuanians, had to protect the principality from final destruction by the Moscow troops, could not but be taken into account by the Polish government and encouraged them to activate the negotiation process with Moscow. During the negotiations the position of the Lithuanians was widely presented through the different officials of the GDL which were invariably included into the Polish plenipotentiary delegation. Finally, during negotiations the Lithuanian lands appeared in the epicenter of territory bidding between Moscow and Warsaw.
